Artist Sophie Crocker worked with two Year 5 classes at Cragside Primary School to co-create an outdoor sculpture project for their new outdoor learning space.
The groups learned how to make impression prints from natural objects, and then pots from coils of clay. They used this learning to develop their own designs and inform their decision making processes.
Sophie explored a number of themes with Sophie before deciding on this series of brightly glazed planters for their outdoor garden area. Sophie worked with small groups of children on each letter, hand-building the structures in sections. Sophie then refined the production work outside of session time and completed the glazing process off-site.
