Malavika Anderson is Museum Manager at Newcastle University’s Great North Museum: Hancock.
Malavika’s job involves looking after the museum’s significant collection of local and international historical items.
She also oversees an exciting programme of activities and learning opportunities for people of all ages who want to find out more about the museum.
“My top tip is to be bold and put yourself out there – apply for opportunities you think you may never be offered. One internship changed everything for me and I never thought that I would be given it. Imposter Syndrome is real – whatever stage you are at in your career – but you have to believe in yourself and enjoy what you do!”
Before joining North East Museums, at the Great North Museu, m: Hancock, Malavika was Head of Live Programme at the Wellcome Collection, London, overseeing public events, broadcast partnerships, youth engagement, and schools’ programmes.
She has also worked at the University of Cambridge, organising the Festival of Ideas and participating in Arts Council England’s national Change Makers programme with Cambridge University Museums.
Malavika is passionate about the way cultural spaces such as the GNM can enrich communities and inspire people from all walks of life to engage with our shared art and heritage.
