Jack Whiting is an apprentice IT Technician at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music, in Gateshead. As part of his role, Jack manages the IT support and helpdesk, as well as assisting with IT project implementations, which could be as part of live music events or internal communications, or networking thougout the Glasshouse IT infrastructure. At the same time, he is studying for his degree in computing.
Jack’s passion for computing and IT, plus his determination to work in the field was clear from the point of selecting his GCSE options. Before working at the Glasshouse ICM, he worked at Curry’s Plc. in the computing department, where he helped customers with pruchases, and assisted them when they came back to the shop with a product they needed support with.
For Jack, working at the Glasshouse ICM is very rewarding, although he admits it can be a lot of work balancing his apprenticeship role and degree requirements. He makes a point of staying one step ahead in work and in his course, planning for meetings, big events and busy periods at the Glasshouse, and balancing that against study deadlines, assignments and exams. Despite the pressure, he is extremely enthusiastic about his work and keen to recommend it to other young people interested in working in IT.
“LinkedIn is always a good thing to be present on, build your network and keep yourself informed with new opportunities and trends,” according to Jack.
