After creating his own Legal Grafitti Wall in Bishop Auckland, and supporting young people to access it, Dan Walls started his own company, Illumination Wall Art, to enable him to make a living from the work he loves.
Dan specialises in custom-painted large-scale murals. He takes on a wide range of commissions, from children’s rooms to commercial buildings, and has worked on pubs, restaurants, gyms, garages, offices, leisure centres, music festivals, vehicles, and much more.
Dan’s aim is to make great art accessible to everyone, any art, any size, anywhere. From large-scale murals to community workshops, Dan believes that art has the power to transform spaces and enhance lives, and his work through Illumination Wall Art is a living testament to this.
Over the years, Dan’s community projects have served as valuable hubs for knowledge sharing and skill development, as well as beautifying local areas and creating vibrant, colourful points of interest for local communities.
Dan is passionate about breaking down the negativity of graffiti culture and he wants to foster a sense of togetherness and personal growth in the area where he lives. He’s keen to create opportunities for young people to learn, create, connect with their peers and make art a vital resource for community enrichment.
Dan was GLOW Artist in Residence at Mary Astell Academy in West Denton, Newcastle, where pupils learned to designed and spray their own grafitti tags, and finally worked together to design and spray a huge, full wall mural at the entrance to their school.
