Nic Greenan is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Tyneside Cinema, in Newcastle. Sometimes Nic is also called the custodian of Tyneside Cinema, because of the cinema’s importance both locally as a much-loved independent cinema and nationally as the oldest newsreel theatre still operational in the UK.
Nic first got into the creative sector through an educational outreach project run by a local theatre in Leeds, where she is from. The theatre came to Nic’s school, and getting involved in their activities inspired her to think about working in arts and culture.
Nic has worked as External Relations Director at East Street Arts , Strategic lead for Bradford UK City Of Culture before taking up her current role as CEO of Tyneside Cinema. Her advice for young people who would like to get into the sector but don’t know where to start, is to speak to people: “It doesn’t matter which creative industry you want to work in, the best thing you can do is never be afraid to ask a question and ask for help.”
