GLOW with young filmmakers @ 28 Years Later Gala Screening

Making quality creative opportunities for young people in Newcastle

We were delighted to be asked by Tyneside Cinema to help recruit a team of young filmmakers for the North East Gala Premiere of 28 Years Later.

@Tyneside Cinema had already reached out to our brilliant creative partners @YoungWomensFilmAcademy and approached us to complete the young filmmaker team.

We contacted with our education partners at @Newcastle College The Performance Academy, and our young all-female team were joined by two Level 3 Acting for Stage and Screen students.

Supporting young people currently underrepresented in our sector

This is the first time in my career that I have been interviewed by an all-women film crew” – Danny Boyle, Tyneside Cinema, 19th June 2025

The crew devised questions for Danny Boyle and Alfie Williams in collaboration with Tyneside Cinema, North East Screen and Sony, then set up and ran the interview, while Tim Goodill of Cassini Film captured the action.

“Value you peer group.  Be resilient.  Don’t look at glamourous-seeming people like me.  Look at your peer group.  You’ll find your writer, your editor, your filmmaker, your sound crew right there.” – Danny Boyle, Tyneside Cinema, 19th June 2025

Danny Boyle’s advice for young filmmakers echoes GLOW Newcastle’s mission to champion young people’s voices and their role as makers and producers of arts and culture.  We work to connect young people in the city and across the region with the professional expertise, tools, skillsets and opportunities to make their own creative work and show it in our most well-known and valued cultural spaces.

Danny Boyle shares critical creative insights for young aspiring filmmakers

Danny’s insights mirror those shared by people at all levels of our cultural and creative sector, represented in our GLOW Newcastle Creative Careers Gallery

“I love coming home, yeah.  I love being in Newcastle.  People are really passionate here.” – Alfie Williams, Tyneside Cinema, 19th June 2025

Despite being relatively new to the red carpet and on the spot interview process Alfie Williams summed up the atmosphere at the Tyneside Cinema.

The excitement and energy on the night radiated from the guests to the Tyneside team, the multiple partners involved in the three screen showing, our young filmmaker crew and the buzz from a very happy audience, captured brilliantly by our young filmmakers in our vox pops.

We’re looking forward to making more cultural, creative and education partnerships happen very soon in the future!
